Baroque art in the Mont Blanc region

Man has always asked for God's protection in this grandiose setting overshadowed by Mont-Blanc.

Between 1680 and 1780 the Catholic Church allowed itself to be swept up in the tide colour and joy in God's faith by introducing Baroque Art into Churches to counter Protestantism coming from neighbouring Geneva.

Thus the mountains and villages in the Mont-Blanc region shelter many treasures such as churches, chapels, oratories and crucifixes.

Baroque art provided a link between the valleys and villages in Savoie and its Sentier du Baroque, the Baroque Trail will guide you on a journey of ten extraordinary churches and chapels, not forgetting the numerous oratories on a trail that will take you over 20 km, linking up Combloux, St Nicolas de Véroce and Notre Dame de la Gorge.

This charming, yet easy walk will allow you to discover some of the wonders of Baroque Art in the Mont Blanc region at your own pace.
